Well before booking your next event, the first thing to do is find a location and venue.  Things that come into mind are your budget, specific area and what amenities and vendors you prefer.  If you are going to a hotel, you will probably have to use their catering/bar.   Finding a location/venue that allows outside catering and event planners is a great option to have flexibility.
